Day 1 arrival at Siem Reap
You arrive in Siem Reap, the most important place in Cambodia. This is the gateway to see the world-famous Angkor Wat.
Day 2 Siem Reap
A day off in Siem Reap, of course we recommend you visit the worldfamous Angkor Wat. This is a world-class monument and is therefore rightly on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Angkor covers an area of up to 25 km², where more than 100 monuments from the past can be found. The most famous temple is the Angkor Wat, but very interesting are the now abandoned city of Angkor Thom and the temple Ta Prohm where nature slowly reclaims the building. Large tree roots and lianas slowly overgrow the beautiful temples with their decorative decorations. All this promotes the mysterious atmosphere. The temples were built between the 6th and 13th centuries. However, they fell into disrepair after the Khmer dynasty was defeated by foreign rulers. The French only rediscovered the monuments at the end of the 19th century. Much is also hidden in the jungle. Also visit some of the lesser-known temples: there are far fewer tourists.
You can choose to discover this area yourself or to book an excursion, see the excursions tab.
Day 5 boat Siem Reap - Battambang
You drive to the port of Siem Raep and board a boat that will takeyou to Battambang. You will sail over the Sangkae River and Tonle Sap Lake, the huge lake in Cambodia, and get to know life on the water and you will pass many villages on stilts. The trip is partly dependent on the water level, but takes on average about 7 hours. Once arrived you will be taken to your hotel in Battambang. In Battambang you will encounter many French influences. Be sure to visit the market in Battambang.
Note: Please note that you are sailing to Siem Reap with a local boat (and therefore on wooden benches). In the dry months (so when the water is a bit lower), the boat trip can take even longer. We can also reserve a private land transfer for you on this route.
Day 6 Battambang
Today you can choose to go on an excursion to the countryside where you will visit Kam Ping Buy Lake, Sampou and Crocodile Mountain, Aek Phnom Temple and across the green rice fields. Of course you can also choose to relax at the hotel or to see this French-colonial town for yourself.Day 7 Battambang - Phnom Penh / via Kampong Loeung, pottery village & Oudong
You travel by car to Phnom Pen, the capital of Cambodia. It is afive hour drive. Along the way you will visit Kampong Chnnang, a pottery village and the floating village of Kampong Loeung. Kampong Loeung is located on the southern shore of Tonle Lap lake. Here mainly Vietnamese live. You take a boat trip through the canals of the village and you get a good view of the village and aquatic life. After this you travel further to Oudong, the former capital of Cambodia from 1618 to 1866. During the Vietnam War, this place was heavily bombed by the Americans and then considerably damaged by the Khmer Rouge. After climbing the stairs with 509 steps you will arrive at the top of Phnom Oudong hill, where you can admire many burial stupas where the former kings and queens are buried. Enjoy the beautiful view over the plains while the guide tells you about the historical and cultural significance of this holy hill. You arrive in Phnom Penh mid-afternoon, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 8 Phnom Penh
A day off in Phnom Penh. You can choose to discover the cityyourself or to book a city tour. We recommend that you visit the Royal Palace. On the grounds of this "Royal Palace" is also the "Silver Pagoda", a beautiful temple with a completely silver-plated floor. Also visit the most important temple of this city: Wat Phnom.
That Phnom Penh not only has fun and beautiful things to offer is clear during a visit to the Toul Sleng museum. During the Khmer Rouge regime, this former school was renamed a prison where thousands of people were tortured and killed. During a visit to the "Killing Fields" (just outside the city) you also get a good impression of all the atrocities that took place here during the Khmer Rouge regime. If there is still time left, you can also visit the "Russian Market". In this cozy jumble of corridors and stalls you are at the right place for souvenirs or other bargains. Another recommendation is a visit to the local market "Psar Thmei". In the market hall you will find a collection of stalls where you can buy antiques, jewelry, books, clothing and fabrics. The spicy scents meet you in the food department. You will find a variety of fish, exotic fruits and special nuts here. The market is open daily from seven in the morning to five in the afternoon and can be easily reached by public transport.
Day 9 Phnom Penh - Kampot
Today you travel further to Kampot, located in the rural area insouthern Cambodia. Kampot is a rural provincial town full of old French-colonial villas. The picturesque town is beautifully situated in the green hilly landscape of Cambodia. It is a good base to visit the nearby Bogor National Park. You can also simply stroll through the town or take a boat trip on the river over the Tuk Chou river.
Day 10 Kampot
A day off in Kampot. Go on exploring the town or stretch your legsin the natural park of Bogor? In the area you will also find some waterfalls and ancient temples. This way you can visit the Tuk Chou waterfalls. In Kampot itself you can look for the famous Kampot peppers on the market. You can also choose to go for a bike ride through the beautiful countryside. During the bike ride you will learn everything about the daily life of the Cambodians. Also very nice is an exploration of Kampot from the water. The Belgian Bootman Bart will gladly take you through mangrove forests and narrow rivers.
Day 11 Kampot - Sihanoukville / boat to Koh Rong Sanloem
Today you travel further towards Koh Rong Sanloem. You will bedropped off at the Serendipity pier, from where you will take the ferry to the beautiful Koh Rong Saloem in two hours. Koh Rong is a small and relatively unknown island that is surrounded by snow-white sandy beaches, palm trees and crystal-clear water. You will spend the night here in a simple bungalow with private bathroom and terrace with a sea view. You can relax here in the coming days!
NB: overnight on Koh Rong Sanloem is fairly basic. The choice of accommodation is somewhat limited and somewhat simple. For example, there is not everywhere 24-hour electricity available, there are no ATMs and in terms of restaurants and facilities somewhat less choice. A somewhat more luxurious option for Koh Rong Sanloem is the nearby island of Koh Rong. This is more famous among tourists and there are therefore more luxurious accommodations and more facilities. Note that there are no ATMs on Koh Rong either.
Day 12 Koh Rong Sanloem
A day off to relax! Koh Rong Sanloem is a very small island with five beaches, a bay and lots of nature. The island is ideal for a short walk. Be sure to visit Kan Pei, a traditional fishing village. Do you want something more luxurious? Ask the travel specialist for a stay on the larger island of Koh Rong.Day 13 Koh Rong Sanloem
An extra day off on Koh Rong Sanloem. Get the island vibes and enjoy doing nothing at all.Day 14 Boat Koh Rong Sanloem - Sihanoukville / transfer Phnom Penh & departure
You travel back to the mainland by ferry. Upon arrival in Sihanoukville you will be met by your driver and taken to Phnom Penh airport in a few hours for your flight home.Reis boeken?
